DELTON BASE BALL CLUB 6
MILWAUKEE GRAYS 5
May 23, 2010 at Doctor's Park
The calendar said late May, but the weather felt like late June - in other words a great day for base ball.
The Grays hosted the newly formed Delton Base Ball Club for the first time and a good time was had by all, with a post-game cookout also on the menu.
The Milwaukees entered without Skeeter, out with a broken finger, then during the game saw Spike (quadriceps) and Dead Pull (back) play through injuries. Nevertheless, the home nine played a good ballgame, but came up just a bit short.
The Grays took a 5-4 lead in the fifth on a Night Owl two-run double, but the Deltons came right back in the sixth with two of its own.
No more scoring was to be had as neither team could come up with a clutch hit.
The game featured a number of fans, which was always nice to see, as well as a hunt for a lost ball, which is never fun to endure. But the sphere was recovered after about a five-minute search - minutes the Grays certainly used to their advantage to rest up.
Big thanks to "Steve" and Young Dog for filling in more than admirably. We hope they won't be strangers to the game.
As mentioned, the teams had a nice cookout afterward and hope to schedule another game or two this spring or summer.
The statistics for the Grays were as follows:
Spike, center scout: 3-5
Smokey, left scout: 4-6, run
Sarge, right scout: 3-7, 2 runs
Steve, rover: 3-5, 2 2b, 2 runs, RBI
Night Owl, second base: 3-5, 2b, 4 RBI
Old Dog, third base: 2-4
Young Dog, behind: 2-4
Dead Pull, first base: 0-1
Lefty, hurler: 2-4 |
